A vistor basks in the sunlight on the altar at the Misison Thursday morning as the winter solstice brings the illumination phenomenon to San Juan Bautista.

Every year on the winter solstice, the sun rises and light shines through the front window of the mission, illuminating the tabernacle at Old Mission San Juan Bautista. It occurred Thursday morning at the church. Here, see video of the traditional gathering.
