The Street Festival and Car Show is returning to its July roots this year.
The Hollister Downtown Association has announced the annual event, which features entertainment and a classic car show, will move back about a month from August to July 17. The festival that started in 1986 originally was held in July until it began conflicting with the biker rally tradition that started in 1997. For the better part of the past decade the festival has been held in August.
With the downtown and larger version of the rally out of the picture, organizers decided to move it back while hoping the change might lead to more exposure, with fewer car shows running around the same time as Hollister’s, said Denise Cauthen-Wright, the HDA’s events coordinator.
“I did a lot of research on determining when all the car shows were,” she said.
By moving the Street Festival back – it was on Aug. 15 in 2009 – it also helps Hollister’s car show avoid conflicting with Reno’s Hot August Nights event in particular. That show runs from July 30 to Aug. 8.
Cauthen-Wright said she has started the process of informing prior vendors and other participants about the change. She noted how vendor applications are available online at the HDA’s Web site and that the organization is seeking people to serve on the event committee.
