The American Red Cross, Santa Cruz County Chapter is responding to the 3.6 Earthquake that hit Tres Pinos in San Benito County this morning. Although there were no injuries or damage from the quake, the chapter is letting people know that the Red Cross will be there in the event of a larger incident, according to a statement from the organization.

“It’s almost a cliche in California, but still very true; it’s not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’ the next large earthquake will strike.” said Patsy Hernandez, emergency services officer for the Santa Cruz County Chapter, in the release. “We want businesses and families to know how to prepare themselves.”

Volunteers will be out with the Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) in San Benito County for the next few days handing out information on preparedness and introducing the community to Red Cross services.

The American Red Cross, Santa Cruz County Chapter is not a government agency and it does not receive money from the national Red Cross.
