Several local Boy Scouts are preparing for the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill, Virg. This 76,000-acre facility has hosted the National Scout Jamboree since 1981.

Scouts from the Monterey Bay Area Council, which includes San Benito County had to go through an application and interview process before the field was narrowed down to the 36 Scouts who make up the Council’s Jamboree Troop 634. Four of the boys are from San Benito County, including Alex Engelhardt, 16, of San Benito High School; Sam Morcate, 14, of San Benito High School; John Biechman, 13, of Tres Pinos; and Tyler Armstrong, 13, of Maze Middle School.

During the Jamboree, the Scouts will have the opportunity to meet othersfrom all over the country, as well as from around the world. They will participate in daily activities from archery to rappeling, and more.

The cost for each Scout to attend the National Scout Jamboree is $3,600. This includes transportation, lodging, meals, tours, and uniforms.

The local Scouts will host an e-waste recyling event at the Sunnyslope Medical Complex March 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 635-9674.
