April showers needed to keep the green grass growing in South
County
Happy Spring everyone, it sure looks and feels like spring has
sprung here in South County. I love driving my bus run along Hwy.
25 and seeing all the wildflowers in bloom and the green grass
growing so tall. Sounds like we may even have some April showers in
store for us next week as well to help keep the grass going a while
longer.

A beautiful farewell service was held last week for Madelyn Bourdet. The church was filled with family and friends who spoke wonderful things about her, a true testament to her life. She will be greatly missed by so many.
Many South County kids spent last weekend in Plymouth at the High School Rodeo Challenge of the Champions rodeo. Some of those competing from our area included Blane Strohn, Alyssa Ferguson, Tawyne Haynish and sisters Megan and Kristy Melton. Their next rodeo will be held in Salinas the weekend of April 16-18, 2010.
Several other South County residents spent last weekend in King City at the Salinas Valley Fair Barrel Race. Some of those competing from our area included Cynthia Fancher, Nicole Nelson, Brittany Nielson, Cheyenne Rey and Colleen Sabin, just to name a few.
Baseball, softball and track season are in full swing at schools these days. Bitterwater Tully and Jefferson School will get together this week for a softball game. Both King City and San Benito High Schools are busy with their spring sports. South County kids playing sports in King City include Katie Donham, Todd and Sierra Sans and Edwin Mendoza. John Donham, a King City High School graduate, is playing baseball for Hartnell College and is doing very well on the team.
Jan Jansen, Program Coordinator for the newly formed Equine Evacuation and Assistance Program contacted me today regarding their new program in South County. They are looking for volunteers to become trained disaster workers to assist with the removal of animals during an emergency or disaster. She is also trying to do a survey of who may need help during these type of situations as well. For more information on the program, check out the Web site at www.equinevac.org.
Now that the warm weather is upon us, be sure to keep your eyes open for those pesky rattlesnakes that will be out and about soon. Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
