What in the heck is going on with the weather these days? Just as soon as you think spring has sprung, the weather turns cold, windy and rainy again! I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for some sunshine.

There was a lot going on in South County last week. The Salinas Valley Fair was the main event in King City last weekend. Several South County kids showed the animals they raised for the fair. Some of those showing animals were Emily Brewen, Taylor and Twyster Hurley, Kassie O’Connor, Kayla Plunket, Wacey Barrington, Tel and Megan Jones, Wyatt Cal and Kiana Silva. Emily Brewen had an outstanding fair as she won several ribbons with her beef projects. Emily won the junior showmanship class and placed very high in the senior showmanship. Her steer was named 4-H Champion and went on to win Reserve Grand Champion. She also won several other classes with her heifer and her breeding projects. Emily takes after her mom as she is quite a showman and she deserves a lot of credit for her accomplishments. She works very hard with her beef projects and her dedication shows. Congratulations, Emily, on a job very well done.

The Country Rodeo was held last Friday during the fair and the Championship Bull Riding was held on Saturday evening. Some of those competing at the rodeo included Andy Barrington, Hec Hurley, Jeremy James and JW Brewen. Congratulations to Andy Barrington and Ronnie Garcia for winning the double mugging contest and to Derek Lacasa for placing second in the bull riding.

The Wrangler Junior High School State Championships were held last weekend in Plymouth. Those participating from our area included Jade Ynuenza, Averie Hubbel, Cheyenne Rey, Taylor Hurley and Brody Sans. Cheyenne had a great weekend as she won the barrel racing, goat tying and All-around Cowgirl title. She brought home two new buckles and a beautiful saddle. Brody ended up placing in the junior bull riding so both he and Cheyenne qualified for the Wrangler National Jr. High Finals in Gallup, N.M. So, for the first time in I don’t know how many years, we will be skipping the San Benito Saddle Horse Show this year for a trip to Gallup. Congratulations to all the kids competing last weekend in Plymouth. They all did great and they all had a great time. Good luck to Brody and Cheyenne as they head off to Gallup, June 27-July 3.

While we were in Plymouth, Jamii Pura and Becky Lisle hosted a bachelorette party for Kyla Prunty at Jamii’s Lake Tahoe home. Even though they were right “over the hill” from Plymouth, I wasn’t able to make it, but some of those from our area did. A few of those enjoying the weekend included Joelle Bautista, Corey Hitchcock, Jamii Pura, Julie Rianda and Becky Lisle. Kyla said it was a great, relaxing weekend.

Adam and Amy Donati became the proud parents of their first baby boy last Monday, May 17. He joins two older sisters at home. Congratulations, Adam and Amy!
