The San Benito High boys volleyball team won its last two matches to close out the regular season this week when it topped both Carmel and Seaside, each in four games.

Tuesday’s victory over Carmel was a bounce-back win for the Balers, who were coming off a three-game sweep against Monterey the previous week.

San Benito took a two-game lead against the Padres before surrendering a game, but staved off the host school en route to a four-game (25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19) win.

In Thursday night’s regular-season finale in Seaside, San Benito split the first two games against the Spartans, but took the latter two in a four-game (25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22) win as well.

The Balers finish their regular season with a 13-4 record in the Tri-County Athletic League, 15-11 overall. San Benito finished in third place in the TCAL behind only Gilroy and league champion Monterey, which defeated the Mustangs in five games on Thursday night to earn the title.

With only the top two teams in the TCAL earning an automatic berth toward the Central Coast Section postseason, the Balers’ only hope will come in the form of an at-large bid.

The CCS seedings will be announced this weekend.

Last year, only San Benito and Gilroy advanced to the postseason, while third-place Monterey fell short of extending its season.
