‘Beyond Therapy’ opens
The Monterey Peninsula College Theatre Company presents “Beyond Therapy” May 14-16, at the Morgan Stock Stage at Monterey Peninsula College, 980 Fremont St. Shows are Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The show is about two people, Bruce and Prudence, who are in therapy and who meet over dinner. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for seniors, $15 for young adults (16-25.)
‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’
The Paper Wing Theatre Company is showing Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from April 30 to May 29. The show is a “dark, urban adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic story.” The theatre is located at 320 Hoffman Avenue at Lighthouse Ave., in Monterey. Tickets are $15 general admission. Downtown walking tour
The San Benito County Historical Society is hosting a walking tour of downtown Hollister, May 15, at 9 a.m. The route is about 1-1/2 miles long, and the tour will begin at the Wapple House Museum, located at 498 Fifth St. Space is limited to 30 people. Tickets are $5 general admission or $8 per family and includes a copy of the Welcome to Historic Downtown Hollister walking tour. 8th annual Wine Passport
The SBC Winegrower’s Association will host its 8th annual Wine Passport May 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Passports can be purchased at the office, located at 1700 Airline Hwy. Every passport includes a wine tasting at six of SBC Winegrower’s Association’s local wineries and a commemorative wine glass. The passport also offers a discount entry to a special amphitheater concert Saturday evening at Peppertree Ranch/Guerra Family Vineyards. Tickets are available for $25 at participating wineries as well as Grillin’ and Chillin’, Ridgemark, She’s and Timber & Textiles. No one under 21 will be admitted to the Wine Passport. Barbecue fundraiser
Chamberlain’s Children Center will be hosting their first barbecue fundraiser on Saturday, May 15.The event is from11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mari Davis Memorial Park and Pavilion located at 1850 San Benito St. All members of the public are invited. The price is $20 for adults and $8 for children. The lunch will include tri-tip, chuck wagon beans, tossed salad, bread and a drink. There will also be a raffle, children’s activities, and a performance by a local dance company. The barbecue lunch will also be available for take out. High Country will perform at the West Side Theatre, 1331 Main St., in Newman. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 for general admission or $15 for reserved seating. The band is a traditional bluegrass band.

Coyote Creek Bird Walk
From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. along Coyote Creek north of Morgan Hill, there will be a series of bird walks led by Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent for 20 years and Rehabilitation Center volunteer. Participants have the option to observe migratory birds and local bird’s habitat and ecological importance. The walks are not recommended for young children because of the terrain. Arts Out Loud
San Benito High School students will be participating in “Arts Out Loud,” a celebration of student achievement in the arts, May 16, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the San Benito High School Auditorium. The annual event is the largest student art exhibit of its kind in San Benito. Original student artwork will be available for sale and raffle tickets will be available for $1, for a chance to win a drawing for teachers’ artwork to benefit the Arts programs.
Benefit barbecue
A benefit barbecue in honor of Jason “Cowboy J” Arballo will be held May 16, from noon to 6 p.m. at Paine’s Restaurant in Hollister. For $10, residents can get half a chicken, beans, salad and garlic bread. For $25, they can get a whole tri-tip and a loaf of garlic bread. Meals can be eaten in or taken out. Oriana Chorale’s ‘Trial By Jury’
The Oriana Chorale will start its 25th anniversary season with a production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta “Trial By Jury,” May 21 and May 22, at 8 p.m. at the Hollister Methodist Church, at Monterey and Fifth streets. Another performance will be May 23, at 3 p.m. at the San Juan Oaks Country Club, on Union Road. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for teens and $5 for children 12 and under. Memorial Day events
The Veterans of San Benito County, American Legion Post 69, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6359 and Ladies Auxiliary of San Juan Bautista, and the Veterans of Foreign War Post 9242 and Ladies Auxiliary will be having a Memorial Service at the county cemeteries May 31, starting at 9 a.m. in San Juan Bautista. The Veterans groups will then go to IOOF Cemetery and then to Calvary Cemetery, ending with a ceremony and barbecue in front of the Veterans building at noon. The event is open to all residents.

Wag N Walk
Pet Friends will be hosting its Wag N Walk, June 12, at 9 a.m. The event is a 5K family fun run/walk around the Graniterock Southside Sand and Gravel Quarry, in Hollister. Four-legged friends are welcome to join in the race. Event registration is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Individuals are $15 and a family pack is $40 for four people. Pets are free. Pacheco State Park’s Ninth Kite Day
The ninth Kite Day will be held at Pacheco State Park. The event will be noon to 4 p.m. Kite-fliers will receive a souvenir Kite Day button. There will be other activities and families are encouraged to bring a kite, hats and/or sunscreen, drinking water, lawn chairs and a picnic lunch. A vendor will have hot dogs and beverages available. The price is $5 for the state park Day Use Fee per car.
