School conducted a fundraising effort for the American Red Cross
International Response Fund to assist the relief effort in

totaling $2,390 to Hollister resident and American Red Cross Gift
Planning Manager Kathleen Wright.
Wright shared how funds are being used in Haiti and Chile and
provided the three Month Report on relief efforts in Haiti. Gifts
made to the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund and to
the local Monterey Bay Area Chapter are used to assist those in
need here in the United States including our local communities.
Students inquired about taking Red Cross classes for Pet First
Aid and Babysitting at the local office and about volunteer

Michelle Chatley receives IBEW scholarship
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 234 awarded three $500 scholarships to graduating high school students in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz, including Michelle Chatley.
Chatley is an Anzar High School student who has applied to the University of California, Davis, Berkely and Santa Barbara as well as the University of Pacific. She is still waiting on responses, but plans to attend one of the schools in the fall. She wrote an essay on how the union movement played a key role in the life and well-being of a family member who is in a union. Her mother is a member of the California Nurses Association.
Kyle Pelot, of Monterey County, and Robby John Pappas, of Santa Cruz County, received the other scholarships.
Local 234 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers represents 400 workers in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. The scholarships are offered to one student in each county. To qualify, the students had to have a past or present immediate family member who has been a union member, of any affiliation.
