San Benito junior Scott Medina set a season-best time in the 300 hurdles at the Sacramento Meet of Champions on Saturday when he clocked a 40.51 to finish in seventh place.

The time ever so slightly eclipses Medina’s previous best time, which was a 40.53 recorded at the Quicksilver Classic earlier this season.

Medina wasn’t the only Haybaler to compete in Sacramento, however. David Kret ran in the 800 meters, where he recorded a 1:59.25 to take 11th place, while the boys’ 4×400 relay team clocked a 3:26.44 to take sixth place.

Eddie Guzman ran in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, running in 4:32.73 and 9:54.13, respectively, while teammate Jose Guzman clocked a 4:50.26 in the 1,600.

Meanwhile, in the field events, Frankie Martinez took ninth place in the discus with a throw of 144-10.

Results from San Benito’s dual meet against Gilroy from last Thursday were not reported at press time, although the Baler boys did remain undefeated with a 70-66 victory over the Mustangs. The Lady Balers lost, however, by a 75-61 margin.

San Benito will host North Salinas for the final regular-season dual meet of the season on Thursday at home. Meet time is 3:30 p.m.
