Despite his retirement at the end of the year, San Benito County Sheriff Curtis Hill was sworn in by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as president of the California Sheriff’s Association on April 28.
Calling it a “great honor,” Hill now represents all 58 sheriff’s offices throughout the state until his December retirement. Hill was selected as president five years after he was first nominated as an officer within the sheriff’s association.
“To be responsible for all 58 sheriffs is a responsibility that I’m honored to be entrusted with,” Hill said.
Hill expects more work but is ready for it, he said.
“It’ll be an extra responsibility but it’s what I signed up for,” he said.
Hill said his extra work wouldn’t affect how he runs the sheriff’s office the rest of the year.
“I am not going to be stepping away,” he said.
Hill is the second San Benito sheriff to hold the position, more than 40 years after Sheriff John Luchetti was president in 1964.
