The epicenter of the quake, which struck at 11:54 p.m. Tuesday, was about two miles southwest of San Juan Bautista, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Sixty-one Gilroy residents had reported feeling the temblor as of 12:40 a.m., and people from as far away as San Francisco took note of the quake, according to survey officials.
