Hollister Exchange Club past President Dean C. Croft presented a check for $5,000 to Mary Anne Hughes of the Community Food Bank of San Benito County.

This check followed an earlier check for $3,000. The Exchange Club will be holding another fundraiser this year to raise the final $2,000 needed to complete a total pledge of $10,000 to the Community Food Bank of San Benito County this year.

According to Executive Director Mary Anne Hughes, the money is even more important now that the Food Bank has lost most of a $250,000 grant from the government, which was to have mostly bought food but also would have covered some operating expenses.

“We are very grateful for the support of the Exchange Club; they have been faithful donors to our mission to alleviate hunger, as well as supporting many other good organizations since their beginning here in Hollister in 1926,” Hughes wrote in a press release.

According to current President Brent Redmond, whose transportation company is also a regular donor, the Exchange Club would like to challenge other service organizations to match their donation this year, including local Rotary clubs.
