After going 2-3 at a tournament in Clovis last weekend, the San Benito High girls water polo team opened Tri-County Athletic League play on Thursday with a convincing 18-0 victory over visiting Watsonville.

Head coach Hayley Vandercook said each player scored at least one goal in the game, which saw the Balers jump out to a 5-0 lead after one quarter and an 11-0 lead at halftime.

San Benito improves to 3-3 overall, 1-0 in the TCAL.

It was a similar story for the Baler boys as well, which took a 9-3 lead to the break against Watsonville on Thursday en route to a 20-3 victory.

Each active player for San Benito found the back of the net, too, with Carlos Huerta leading all scorers with four goals. Nick Angulo and Eric Johnson each added three goals apiece as well.

The Balers are now 2-2 overall, 1-0 in the TCAL.

Both the boys and girls water polo teams will return to the pool on Wednesday when each will travel to Morgan Hill to take on Live Oak. Matches begin at 4 p.m.
