City council members voted 4-0 Monday in approval of the resolution to oppose Proposition 19. The initiative on the November ballot calls for legalization of marijuana use beyond the state law already allowing medical pot consumption.
Police Chief Jeff Miller outlined potentially negative impacts from the proposition and he noted such effects as how the legalization would cause workplace issues and still would allow passengers in vehicles to smoke pot.
The city already has its own ordinance banning medical marijuana dispensaries and has been in a legal battle with the owner of Purple Cross Rx, which opened shop downtown before recently going to a delivery-only service.
The vote on the proposition was unanimous, though Councilman Ray Friend was absent.
