Anzar senior Aaron Hsia-Coron recorded a 17:01 to take 17th out of more than 200 runners Saturday at the Early Bird Invitational in Salinas, where the Hawks cross country team finished 40th overall.
Anzar recorded a total team time of 1:40:04 to finish 40th out of 46 teams, while Bellarmine (1:21:10), San Benito (1:23:21) and Madera South (1:23:34) earned the top three spots at the massive meet at Toro Park.
Hsia-Coron’s strong time was 41st overall among the approximately 968 runners present.
Meanwhile, teammate and fellow senior Greg Bissell recorded a 20:03 to finish second on Anzar, while seniors Miguel Vega (20:33) and Josiah Garza (21:14) finished within the top five for the Hawks as well.
Freshman Noah Schaub recorded a qualifying time for Anzar, too, when he recorded a 21:13 on Saturday.
Fellow freshmen Cristian Monroy (21:45) and Diego Avila finished in sixth and seventh place for Anzar.
Although the Anzar girls team didn’t field a full five members to record a team time, Valerie Quezada managed to take 78th overall out of nearly 200 runners in the sophomore race with a time of 23:58.
Junior Emily Wilkenson clocked a 28:11 and senior Melissa Weckerle ran a 27:01 during Saturday’s race for Anzar.
The Hawks are expected to compete again on Thursday when they will host a Coastal Athletic League Center Meet at Gavilan College in Gilroy. Meet time is 4 p.m.
