Residents prep for San Benito County Fair
Fall has officially arrived and with it comes the same old
Indian summer heat. The way the weather has been acting lately,
it’s no wonder everyone seems to be sick. You don’t know from one
day to the next whether it’s going to be warm or cold. At least the
weather is supposed to be nice for a while now, just in time for
the San Benito County Fair!
The San Benito County Fair unofficially kicks off this weekend
with the annual Junior Rodeo, Ranch Rodeo and Horseshow. The
Horseshow, which features a lot of cow horse classes, will take
place on Friday evening, followed by the junior rodeo on Saturday
and the Ranch Rodeo on Sunday.

Dawson Bell will be competing all three days as he will be showing his horse “John Wayne” on Friday night, then will compete in both the junior rodeo and ranch rodeo over the weekend. He’ll be spending a little time with us as his sister Lila will be heading down for Parkfield for the weekend with her parents as she will be participating in the West Coast Junior Rodeo Association year end finals. The Bells are separating for the weekend as Lila is in a tight race for the year-end all around title which will be awarded this weekend. Good luck, Lila!
We headed down to Parkfield last weekend for the kids’ first high school rodeo of the year. Sierra, Brody, Cheyenne Rey, Taylor and Twyster Hurley and Wacey Barrington each competed at the rodeo. Brody got a pretty decent bull rode and the other kids each did well in their respective events as well. Their next high school rodeo will be in Santa Ynez in October. District 4 will be hosting their first high school rodeo of the year on Sunday at the Posse Grounds in Salinas.
The San Benito County Fair begins next week at the San Benito County Fairgrounds. 4-H and FFA exhibitors will begin bringing in their animals next Tuesday, followed by several days of showing the animals. The livestock auction will take place on Saturday. Be sure to head on over to the fair to watch the kids show and to support them at the auction.
My fantasy football team did not disappoint me last weekend. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought I would be rooting on a 49er, but with Frank Gore as one of my running backs, I rooted him on all the way! Thanks in part to him, and of course my quarterback Jay Cutler, I walked away with the win last weekend. Hopefully this weekend will be just as good.
If you haven’t gotten your tickets for the San Benito County Cattlewomen’s Annual Fall Fashion Show and Luncheon yet, be sure to get in touch with Jayme Stewart to reserve your seats. Tickets will go quickly and you won’t want to miss out on this fun event. It promises to have delicious food and great raffle prizes.
