It’s been a busy week down here in South County. Seems like everyone is on the go these days.

The San Benito County Cattlemen’s Association held a ranch rodeo in conjunction with a Cattlemen’s meeting/barbecue last Saturday at Bolado Park.

Congratulations to Dean Bell and J. W. Brewen for splitting the All-Around title. After a coin flip, Dean was declared the winner of a very nice All-Around buckle. Some of those attending from South County included JW and his family, Todd Sans, Vern Scattini, Andy Barrington and Lee Whitney. Andy and his team were the champion Cattle Sorters while Vern, Todd, JW and Dean won the Calf Branding. After the rodeo, a delicious lunch was served and the guys said the guest speakers were outstanding. They all had a good day.

Congratulations goes out to new parents, Kent and Haley Hirdes on the birth of their brand new daughter, Reese Mona. Reese was born Oct. 16. She looks absolutely beautiful in her pictures and I can’t wait to meet her in person. With the “baby boom” going on in Hollister these days, she’s sure to have lots of little playmate. Congratulations, guys!

Best of luck to Hollister’s favorite bull rider Brendon Clark who will be competing at the Professional Bull Riders World Championships this week in Las Vegas. The finals started on Wednesday and they go through Sunday, so by the time your all reading this, Brendon will have already have competed in a few go rounds. Let’s send our best wishes to Vegas so he can come home with lots of money!

Several Hollister families headed over to Oakdale last weekend for a multidistrict high school rodeo. Some of those competing from our area included Blane and Blair Strohn, Kristy Melton, Wyatt Nacarrato, Cash Robinson, Megan Ford and Mikael Enz. We’ll be heading down to Santa Ynez next weekend for our next high school rodeo while the district 4 kids will be competing next in Riverdale.

Sophie Becket and Stacy Cal hosted the monthly hot lunch at Bitterwater Tully School last Friday. Everyone was very pleased to see Roberta “Aunt Nix” Oswald arrive for lunch. Aunt Nix has been recovering from surgery all summer so this was her first visit back to the school. I’m sure the Giants are giving her lots to smile about these days, too. Welcome back, Aunt Nix!

Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
