Bear’s Hideaway in San Juan Bautista is hosting a Valentine’s Day 50-50 raffle to support restoration of Lauren E. Verutti Park as part of the San Juan Rotary Club’s effort.
The event starts at 4:30 p.m. with music by DJ Val. It includes pasta salad and breadsticks provided while supplies last. Patrons have a chance to win a Valentine’s Day-themed gift basket and a bottle of Leal wine. One lucky winner will take home half of the raffle ticket sales, with the other 50 percent going to the park restoration initiative.
According to an announcement on the fundraising efforts:
In mid-November the San Juan Bautista Rotary Club agreed to sponsor a two-phased renovation initiative for the Lauren E. Verutti Memorial Park on Second Street nestled between San Jose and Jefferson Streets. Phase one consisted of the installation of a new redwood fence to serve as a boundary for private residences from the city park and the landscaping with drought resistance, eco-friendly plants, and overall park beautification. Phase two is to be the removal of contaminated sand beneath the playground equipment which has become a litter box for free-roaming animals, and its replacement with a safe rubberized surface material.
Ray’s Stump Removal of Hollister donated mulch to surround the new plant life, and Doña Esters Mexican Restaurant kicked off the fundraising efforts with a Verutti Park benefit in January.
Lauren Verutti Memorial Park was established in 1991.
Bear’s Hideaway is located at 402 #B 3rd St., San Juan Bautista. For more information on the event, call (831) 623-9363.
