Santa Ana 4H Club, along with guests from Spring Grove 4H Club,
planted 24 oak trees at San Benito County Historical Park for the
4H Million Trees Project. The 4H Million Trees Project was
conceived by a member of Pacifica 4H Club, with a goal of
mobilizing the six million 4H youth members across the United
States and Canada to plant one million trees. To date 268,734 trees
have been planted.
The oak trees were donated by Bill and Nelda Burdick, of San
Martin. The tree planting was held in conjunction with a global
work party held on 10/10/10 by 350.org, an international
environmental organization with the goal of building a global
grassroots movement to raise awareness of man-made climate change.
On Oct. 10, 7,347 events were organized in 188 countries where
people got together to do things such as plant trees and install
solar panels. The number 350 refers to parts per million of CO2.
The number has been cited by scientists as the target to reduce
global warming trends.
