There will be two continuing education workshops coming up where farmers and ranchers can obtain continuing education hours to renew their pesticide licenses.

The San Benito County Weed Management Area will hold its annual workshop on Nov. 29 at the Veterans Memorial Building, according to an announcement from the county agricultural commissioner’s office.

According to that announcement:

The Weed Management Area is a partnership of local organizations and public agencies that help coordinate weed control work in the county. This workshop will be the ninth that has been sponsored by the Weed Management Area.

This workshop will focus on topics that would be of interest to the county’s cattle ranchers. Some of the agenda items include rangeland weed control, livestock health, and the California Rangeland Trust. Attendees at the workshop are eligible for two hours of pesticide education, which includes one hour of laws and regulations credit.

The workshop will start at 8:30 a.m., with registration starting at 8 am. On Dec. 7, the San Benito County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office will be sponsoring a pesticide laws and regulations workshop, which will also be held at the Veterans Memorial Building.

The class has been approved for 2.0 hours of continuing education credit by the Department of Pesticide Regulation. This class will start at 9 a.m., with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. Growers and ranchers who use restricted use pesticides are required to obtain a private application or certificate issued by the county agricultural commissioner. Depending on when the certificate was first issued, it can be valid for up to three years. To renew this certificate, the certificate holder needs to obtain two hours of pesticide continuing education for each year their card is valid. Of the total required hours, at least two of the hours must be specifically laws and regulations.

This class is an opportunity to obtain these required hours for your renewal. For additional information on these classes or on renewal requirements, call the county agricultural commissioner’s office at (831) 637-5344.
