After spending three years as the planning commissioner in District 5, Robert Scattini will step down from the position as he starts his second term as a Hollister City Council member.
Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz informed Scattini after he won the city council seat that there could be a conflict issue holding both positions, Scattini said. The newly appointed council member issued his letter of resignation in November.
“I had no choice because I was on the city council,” Scattini said. “I would have liked to stay but it is a conflict.”
Scattini was elected to the Hollister council representing District 2, succeeding Eugenia Sanchez. It is the second time Scattini has been a member of the city council after filling the seat from 2002 to 2006.
Scattini edged Sergio Montanez by 14 votes in the Nov. 2 election.
De La Cruz said he told Scattini that at some point there would be a conflict on an issue between his city job and county responsibilities.
He praised Scattini’s time as a member of the planning commission.
“Robbie attended the meetings and asked the tough questions that were important,” De La Cruz said. “He did a wonderful job.”
Scattini was proud of his three years on the commission, calling the position the toughest and most important committee in the county.
“It’s a really important,” he said. “Not everybody is going to agree with your decision, but you make decisions that effects a lot of people.”
De La Cruz is interviewing residents and finishing his search for a replacement, he said.
