SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

The Anzar High boys soccer team lost to visiting York 2-1 Thursday to finish the regular season at 5-4-1 in Coastal Athletic League play. 5-5-1 overall.

The Hawks needed to win their last three remaining games in order to steal the league title from Pacific Collegiate. However, Anzar fell on tough times late, and went 0-2-1 in those three remaining games.

On Thursday in San Juan Bautista, York took a 1-0 lead in the first half, and although Anzar managed to tie the game in the second, the Falcons scored the game-winner on an Arthur Richardson penalty shot.

Although unlikely due to their fourth-place standing in the CAL, Anzar’s above-.500 record supplies some hope for an at-large bid toward the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.

The CCS seedings will be announced this weekend.
