A renovation to the kitchen at the homeless shelter site and seasonal migrant camp has been on hold since December due to the state’s budget problems.
Homeless shelter Manager Cindy Parr told the Free Lance the kitchen building – which is about 150 feet from the actual shelter – had been set for demolition Dec. 1 and that the project continues to be on hold with the state’s deficit.
Homeless shelter officials had planned to be without a kitchen on site this season. They have recruited volunteer groups to cook food off site at the Community Center. It is unclear what effect the state budget uncertainty might have on the project’s timeline or whether it will be finished before next winter.
