Fire trucks responded to a call from employees at the Monsanto Company Vegetable Seeds Division research station in San Juan Bautista.

Firemen responded to a call about a potential structure fire in San Juan Bautista Wednesday morning and discovered an overheated water cooler.
Employees were evacuated from the building after someone smelled something “electrical,” said Nancy Bergamini, the station manager at the Monsanto Company Vegetable Seeds Division’s research center at 500 Lucy Brown Lane.
“We’re not sure what it is at this point,” said Bergamini, who explained there were no flames at the site but watched as firemen checked the building.
The electrical smell came from an overheated water cooler, which was removed from the facility, she later said. Employees smelled something and called to have the firefighters check it out.
“That’s what prompted everything,” Bergamini said.
