Marty Greenwood, owner of Greenwood Chevrolet, today confirmed to the Free Lance that “we’re fine” and will not be one of the 1,110 of 6,200 nationwide General Motors dealers that will be denied a franchise renewal.
“We felt we were going to pass,” Greenwood said. “They chose to go forward with Greenwood.”
He said that the dealership was not asked to close for two reasons. The first is that his dealership is the only General Motors dealer in the county. The second is that the dealership passed “with flying colors” on a set of criteria to see how each dealership was faring. Greenwood said that there were seven or eight criterion including customer satisfaction, liquidity, volume and how each dealership is competing.
“We felt we’d be here and we’re here to serve San Benito County,” he said.
Greenwood also said that Pontiac will no longer be sold by GM dealers.
“Pontiac is going out the door,” he said. “But Pontiac owners will still have the ability to have their cars serviced here for a long time.”
Along with Pontiac, GM is looking to sell of the Hummer and Saab brands, all in an attempt to “re-align a lot of dealerships.” Going into the future, Greenwood and other GM dealers will only be selling Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC automobiles.
