The two finalists for the gang coordinator position were set to be interviewed by the gang coordinator policy board this week.

County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson said that the county has a “good shot” at getting a qualified person for that role, due to the quality of the applicants.

“We have a really good candidate pool,” Thompson said. “We have a really good shot at getting a really good candidate.”

Interviews for the position began in May with an applicant pool of at least 45, but not all of the applicants were qualified for the position.

The board interviewing the candidates is comprised of members from each of the involved parties who have helped to fund the position, including members from San Benito County, the City of Hollister, the Hollister School District and the San Benito County Office of Education.

Once the interviews are complete, the interviewers will make a recommendation to the entire policy committee on which candidate they think will be best in that role.

Thompson said she doesn’t know when the final decision will be made.

“It requires background checks,” she said. “There are hoops that need to be jumped through.”
