Gavilan students awarded scholarships
South Valley Unitarian Fellowship announces the winners of the 2009 scholarships. Jamie L. Chambers, Veronica Barazza and Brittney Pascual, students in Gavilan College’s Nursing Program, have been granted the $750 scholarships, which are given in the memory of the late Hulda Champion.
Alexander Payne
Alexander J. Payne, of Morgan Hill, was recently named to the Northeastern University’s dean’s list for the 2009 spring semester, which ended in May 2009. To achieve the dean’s list distinction, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.25 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no single grade lower than a C during the course of their college career.
Payne is a graphic design major.

Gregg Murdock from Gilroy received a degree in women’s studies from Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. May 23.
The college conferred degrees on 102 members of the class of 2009. The graduates and their guests heard remarks from Dr. Peggy Ryan Williams, recently retired President Emerita of Ithaca College. Wells College educates students to think critically, act humanely and reason wisely in a global society, preparing them to share the privilege of education with others as they seek to improve their communities and society as a whole.
