“Good Morning San Juan,” a musical concert created and presented by San Juan Bautista residents Tim and Frances Tompkins will be performed July 17 and 18, at the El Teatro Campesino Playhouse.

This night of original music features Daniel Valdez along with Tim, Frances, Jan Luby and the San Juan Singers.

Over the past decade Tim and Frances have played music for many El Teatro Campesino productions including nine seasons of Christmas shows in the Old Mission San Juan Bautista. Recently, they performed in Gilroy at Gavilan College’s Gav Fest with Los Pollos de San Juan and acted as musical directors for the Gavilan College production of ‘Blood Wedding.’

The Tompkins have been performing and writing lyrics and music together for some 30 years. Prior to meeting Tim – the classically-trained Frances, switched from performing classical violin to jazz – studying under the influence of mega-star trumpeter and her close friend, Chet Baker.

In the meantime, Tim underwent a musical metamorphosis as well, as he moved from classical cello to folk and rock music – adding guitar and piano – while playing with members of The Moody Blues and opening for the great Chuck Berry.

The GallopAway Music Company has made Tim and Frances’ CDs available for preview and purchase at www.gallopaway.com or www.cdbaby.com.

The Good Morning San Juan concert will include singers, bass, guitar, drums, ethnic percussion, electric guitars, folk and classical clarinet, sax, washboard and a special guest appearance by Bingo, the junk-store robot.

Good Morning San Juan show dates are set for Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18, at 8 p.m. at El Teatro Campesino.

Tickets are available online at www.elteatrocampesino.com, over the phone by calling 623.2444 or in person at El Teatro Campesino’s box office, Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door before each performance – the doors open at 7 p.m., El Teatro Campesino is at 705 4th St.
