noon. Entry for adults is $9 and $6 for kids 12 and under. The meal
includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, orange juice
and coffee. The breakfast is at the church on Fifth and Monterey
Streets in Hollister. Proceeds benefit community projects such as
donating presents to 200 San Benito County children at Christmas

Veterans tri-tip barbecue
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 and Ladies Auxiliary of Hollister is hosting an annual July barbecue today and tomorrow at the Veterans Memorial Building. There will be live music and a tri-tip lunch and dinner.

Top Hatters poker run
The Top Hatters will host its 62nd annual poker run today with check-in between 10 a.m. and noon at Whiskey Creek Saloon, 201 Fifth St., in Hollister. For $20 visitors get a run pin, support sticker, a barbecue meal and a chance to listen to live music. $500 high hand (cash) and $500 low hand (gift certificate). All bikes welcome. Kiddie parade
The annual July 4th Kiddie Parade will start at 10 a.m. at the County Express parking lot at Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Memorial Drive and Hillcrease. The parade will proceed North, turn left at Meridian and finish at Maguerite Maze Middle School, with punch and cookies. Children can wear red, white and blue, and decorate their bikes, tricycles, strollers or wagons. No registration is required. SJB veterans celebration
The Veterans of Foreign Wars post in San Juan Bautista will host a commemoration to honor and celebrate Independence Day today. The event will include fun and games for the whole family. Those who know the “Declaration of Independence” have a chance to win prizes. The presentation of colors, 13-gun salute and bugles will begin at 3 p.m. Fireworks will be at dusk. The barbecue starts at noon and will be served all day. It includes ribs, chicken, hamburgers or hotdogs as well as beans, coleslaw, bread and Brunswick Stew for $13. Downtown movie series
They ain’t afraid of no ghosts in this 1984 comedy starring Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis as the three out-of-work parapsychologists decide to set up a ghost removal company. Starring Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett and Rick Moranis as Louis Tully. The show is set for Thursday after 9 p.m. at the corner of Fourth and San Benito streets. Admission is free. Flips tri-tip barbecue
Flips Booster Club is having a drive-thru tri-tip barbecue. Customers will receive a whole tri-tip and a loaf of garlic bread for $25. Pick ups will be held 4 p.m. thru 7 p.m. at USA Sports, 864 Industrial Drive. All money raised by Flips Booster Club goes toward camp, coach, and meet fees for the Pre Team and Competitive gymnastic team. Featured artist for Gallery Walk Don Heitkotter will be the featured artist at this month’s gallery walk July 11 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The artist’s reception is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 107 C The Alameda in San Juan Bautista. Coyote Creek Bird Walk
The Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center will host a bird walk July 11, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. along Coyote Creek, north of Morgan Hill. Participants will have a chance to observe migratory birds as well as discover an appreciation of local birds. Due to the terrain, these walks are not recommended for young children. ‘The Art of Children’s Books’
The Monterey Museum of Art La Mirada presents “Over Rainbows and Down Rabbit Holes: The Art of Children’s Books” July 11 through September 13, 720 Via Mirada in Monterey. The show will feature 70 original illustrations from well-known children’s books. Classics in the exhibition include “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” by Beatrix Potter, “The House at Pooh Corner” by A.A. Milne and illustrated by Earnest Shepard, and more. On July 11, there will be a storybook making activity from noon to 3 p.m. and free admission from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a storybook time every Saturday at 2 p.m. while the show is on display. Regular admission is $5, $2.50 for students and military, free to MMA members, children under 12 NARM and AAM members. Vacation bible school Trinity Lutheran and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church are offering a vacation bible school July 27 through 31. The theme is adventures through the bible. The program is 8 a.m. to noon each day. A $10 donation per child is suggested and the school is open for children 4 years old through eighth grade.
