Intersection going to shambles
If you’ve driven over by Victoria Avenue and Park Street lately near downtown Hollister, you might notice a dip in the road and some pretty nasty conditions that are not much better than the infamous plunge nearby at South and San Benito streets.
It shows signs that city crews have made attempts to do some piecemeal repairs to the intersection – the residual dirt and gravel has left its appearance even shabbier than without – but the work hasn’t stopped the area from deteriorating to a point where vehicles must be careful or they’ll be eating the asphalt with their fenders, with a side of frustration.
That particular intersection not only includes a fairly nasty dip as vehicles drive through on Park Street – stop signs control traffic on Victoria Avenue traffic but not on Park – but it also includes potholes, more miniature craters than a small planet and more cracks than the desert.
Meanwhile, right in the middle of the road there’s a ledge of sorts, about an inch or two off the ground; that lends itself to some vicious contact if drivers don’t take it easy.
It’s unclear exactly when this area might get fixed.
City engineering and street officials who have the answers could not be reached before The Pinnacle’s press time on Wednesday. We will stay on the case and report what we find.
