Friends and family of former Hollister resident Susan Paura are raising funds to bring her back to the area after she was recently diagnosed with terminal liver disease. Funds will be going toward a $16,000 air ambulance trip from Texas to Monterey. Paura is expected to move into the Monterey Home Hospice so she can spend more time with her two daughters, both of whom live in Hollister, and her close friends.

Those close to her would like to try and bring her back by the end of the week and they are asking those in the community for help in donating the funds to pay for the ambulance flight.

Paura, 50, lived in Hollister for at least 25 years before moving to South Padre Island, Texas, with her boyfriend, where she had been working as a Realtor. While she lived in Hollister, Paura was involved in many community groups and organizations including the Community Foundation for San Benito County, the Kinship Center, the YMCA of San Benito County, Hope for a Cure, the Tree of Life and National Philanthropy Day.

She has been in the hospital for more than two weeks and was recently joined by her two daughters, Michelle and Leslie.

An account has been opened up at San Benito Bank and the bank will be accepting donations for the Medical Fund for Susan Paura.
