Residents mistaking road for dump

If you’ve driven along Riverside Road lately, you might notice that some people have decided to drop their trash there instead of using a Dumpster, or the dump, for that matter.

This week, there were three different filled garbage bags along the road, two of them together and another about a quarter-mile away. Riverside Road is west of Hollister near Union Road.

There also was a diaper and some dried spaghetti spilling out of one trash bag – not exactly an appetizing combination. The road is in county jurisdiction, and the Public Works Department responds to such messes, said Kathy McShane, an office secretary.

If the trash is in the road, roads manager Mike Watson will send out a crew to pick it up.

But if it is beside the road – as in this case – the department sends a form to Norcal Waste Systems to handle the work.
