Christopher Gutierrez
Cpl. Christopher Gutierrez, returned from a seven-month tour in Kandahar, Afghanistan on Nov. 22, 2009. Gutierrez deployed with the Marine Attack Squadron VMA-214 “Black Sheep” as a plane captain and powerline mechanic for the AV-AB Harrier. Gutierrez and his squadron participated in several missions supporting “Operation Enduring Freedom” as well as being the first Harrier Squadron deployed to Afghanistan for some time.
Gutierrez, son of Norma and Mario Gutierrez and son-in-law of Kevin and Diane Levonius, graduated Alpha Company, Honor Platoon 1043 from Marine Corps Recruit Depo, San Diego in December 2006. From there he attend aviation school in Pensacola, Fla. and C-School in Cherry Point, N.C., graduating both times at this top of his class.
He returned home to his wife, Ashley Gutierrez (Levonius), a 2007 graduate of Gilroy High School. Mrs. Gutierrez is attending college and volunteering in her husband’s squadron as a family readiness assistant.
The couple resides with their two dogs in Arizona.
Manuel Herrera
Army Reserve Pfc. Manuel J. Herrera has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky.
During training, he received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions and core values.
He is the son of Manuel F. and Yolanda O. Herrera of Hollister. He graduated in 2006 from New Harvest Christian School in Norwalk, and received an associate degree in 2008 from Gavilan College.

Adrian Cortes
Adrian Cortes was born Nov. 23, 2009 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to Jynnita Torres and Adrian Cortes of Hollister. He weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces.
ENGAGEMENT
Rubino/Burns
Michael Rubino and Ellen Burns are engaged to be married.
Michael, son of Michael and Cricket Rubino of Morgan Hill, is a project manager for IES Corp in Sacramento. He attended Live Oak High School and University of California Santa Barbara with a bachelor’s degree in business economics.
Ellen, daughter of Richard and Kathryn Burns of Bryn Mawr, Pa., is an account manager at John O. Bronson Co. in Sacramento. She attended Radnor High School and graduated from Lycoming College with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
The wedding will be held Aug. 21, 2010 in Santa Rosa with the reception in Sebastopol.
The couple currently lives in Roseville.
