Caring for the constantly ill
Dear Lindsay,
My friend has been really sick for three weeks, but she won’t go
to the doctor. What can I do to help her?
– Sick of Sick Friend
Dear Sick,
Depending on the symptoms, it could be something severely wrong.
After three weeks, she definitely needs to see someone. Tell her
parents what’s up and ask if they know. She could be hiding
something extreme, like an eating disorder. Check for signs
including rapid weight loss, food obsessions such as calorie
intake, or frequent trips to the bathroom. If she’s usually really
sick in the morning, then that could be something that’s definitely
not an eating disorder. Make sure you tell her parents. Or even ask
her yourself.
Dear Lindsay,
I think one of my friends is mad at me because he hasn’t been
talking to me at school, but I don’t know how to ask him what is
wrong. What should I do?
-Lone Ranger
Dear Lone Ranger,
Just ask him straight up what’s wrong. Maybe it was something
you said or did/ did not do. It obviously wasn’t intentional if you
are truly upset about it. If he just ignored you, find a way to
make him talk. Ask his other friends if they know something. Text
him, call him, ask him face to face. He can’t be mad at you for no
reason.
Dear Lindsay,
All my friends are having senior portraits, but I haven’t had
them done yet. Should I do it?
-Picture Perfect
Dear Picture Perfect,
I had my senior portraits done a long time ago with the company
the high school uses. Another famous one is Helen’s. Senior
portraits are optional, and are completely up to you and your
parents. If you feel there is no need for them, then don’t do it.
Senior portraits are a nice asset to add to graduation
announcements and invitations or to just give to your friends after
the big walk. I loved my senior portraits, and so did my
family.
Dear Lindsay,
Whenever I am doing my homework on the computer, I always get
distracted with MySpace and Facebook. What can I do to help me
focus?
-Easily Distracted
Dear Easily Distracted,
I have this same problem. In fact, you mentioning it made me
check mine. Yes, it is a great way to communicate and pass the
time, but when it comes to business, it’s all a matter of self
discipline. Just make sure you keep your priorities ranked. Maybe
you could have your parents check on you every once in a while to
make sure you’re not distracted.
