ONE-MILE RUN COMES TO SAN BENITO
HOLLISTER – For his 4-H All Star Project, Erik Rodriguez has planned a one-mile run open to anyone in the community on May 31 from 10 a.m. to noon at the north end of Bolado Park.
The fee for the fun run will be cat or dog food, clumping litter or other animal supplies that will be donated to the local animal shelter. Supplies can also be donated at the 4-H office at Veterans Memorial Building.

LAS MADRES TO HOLD GARAGE SALE
GILROY – The Gilroy Las Madres will hold its annual Spring Garage Sale, featuring gently used baby and maternity items, Friday and Saturday, June 6-7 from 8 a.m. to noon at 7571 Miller Ave.
DEMOCRATIC PARTY MEETING

BURN SEASON ENDS
HOLLISTER – April 30 marked the end of the 2008 backyard burn season in San Benito and Monterey counties. The burn season closed earlier this spring in Santa Cruz county, according to Cal Fire.
The close of the season arrives as the weather turns and the formation of photochemical fog is likely to rise. Backyard barbecues, recreational fires, agricultural burning and fireplace fires are not affected.
Pow wow, market in San Juan
SAN JUAN BAUTISTA – An inter-American celebration of cultural fellowship takes place this Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mission San Juan Batista property on Second Street, next to the teaching center.
Arts, entertainment and educational programming representing many North and South American tribes is planned.
Visitors can participate with the Swift Cloud Native American drum and dance for peace and hope.
Other performances will be by the California Indian Dancers of Pajaro Valley Ohlone Indian Council, local native Ohlone storyteller, Grandfather Joe Mondragon, and Costanoan Kanyon Sayers-Roods singing the blessing song. The Triqui Copala Women’s Dance for Family as well as Allison’s Irish Dancers and Lema’s traditional flute music are also part of the day.
More than 50 artists and crafters, food boths and crafts are also part of the day. The event is sponsored by San Juan Intertribal Council and Peace Vision, Inc., www.peacevision.net
Class of 1971 plans scholarship fundraiser
HOLLISTER – San Benito High School’s Class of 1971 will hold a luncheon/silent auction fundraiser to raise money for its scholarship fund Saturday, May 3 from 1-5 p.m. at Paine’s Restaurant; 421 East St. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at the door. Candidate forum comes to Aromas
AROMAS – The Aromas Community Grange will be hosting a candidates’ forum Sunday, May 4, at 4 p.m. San Benito County District 2 candidates, Anthony Botelho and Anthony Freitas will answer questions from residents. In addition Measure V will be discussed and information on June ballot initiatives will be provided by the League of Women voters. The grange is located at the corner of Rose and Bardue streets.

Sober Grad Night Committee holds barbecue
HOLLISTER – The San Benito High School Sober Grad Night will hold a barbecue and raffle fundraiser May 2 at Johnny’s Bar and Grill on San Benito Street beginning at noon. The $10 plate will feature barbecued chicken, beans, salad and garlic bread. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase.
