Graduations mark the beginning of summer
Summertime is almost here; most South County students begin
their summer vacations today. Several graduations took place this
week, along with many other end-of-school and summertime
activities. As I said before, once the fair rolls around, time just
starts to fly by, then, the next thing you know, the holidays are
upon us again!

Summertime is almost here; most South County students begin their summer vacations today. Several graduations took place this week, along with many other end-of-school and summertime activities. As I said before, once the fair rolls around, time just starts to fly by, then, the next thing you know, the holidays are upon us again!

The Barrington and Brewen families spent last Tuesday at the fairgrounds for the Salinas Valley Fair’s beef carcass contest. Emily Brewen and Wacey Barrington each had a steer entered in the fair. They both had great success with their steers and scored right about average in the carcass contest. They enjoyed their steers and are already looking forward to their next ones.

Congratulations go out to Bitterwater-Tully alumni John Donham for receiving the Coach’s Award honor at the King City High Mustang Baseball awards ceremony last week. Congratulations also go to Rory Johnsen for winning Pitcher of the Year and to Jimmy Barbree for being named Most Valuable Player. Rory and Jimmy earned All-League honors as well. Way to go boys!

A group of girls headed down to San Luis Obispo last Thursday for an evening of fun in honor of Jessika Silva, who married Blake Willoughby Saturday, June 7. Kasey Hurley hosted Jessika’s San Luis Obispo bachelorette party while Nessen Schmidt hosted Blake’s bachelor party at his home. We don’t know all the details of the men’s party (and I’m sure we probably don’t want to know!), but I do know us girls had a great time. Those enjoying the evening in San Luis included: Sandy Silva, Jessica Brooks, Tamra Barrington, Candace Brewen, Crystal Silva and Callie Davis.

Congratulations of course go out to the bride and groom, Blake and Jessika’s wedding was held on horseback in a little grove of trees at the home of Billy and Katherine Petrovich. Jessika rode side saddle in a beautiful, strapless wedding dress while Blake looked extremely handsome wearing a black tuxedo and his black hat while riding in on a paint horse. The entire wedding party, 16 in all, was on horseback as well. The reception was held at the same location, where a delicious meal was served to the more than 200 friends and family in attendance. Some of those I visited with include: Mickey and Patti Hearne (Mickey just recently finished competing in and completing the Boston Marathon for the second time), Barney and Irene Bray, Ed Copley, Nick Baldiviez, Gator and Wendy Rianda, Kenny and Valerie Reed, Kenny and Vickey Sabin, Casey and Colleen Sabin, Kanani Barbree and Blair Danie, The Barrington family, John and Janel Flook, John Brewen and Lou Harbin, Ken Griffin, J.W. and Candace Brewen, Callie and Maddie Davis and Linda Perez, Garrett Crocker, Steve Rianda, the Nessen Schmidt family and Val Bassetti, just to name a few. Congratulations and best wishes to you, Blake and Jessika!

Congratulations also go out to the groom’s parents, Tom and Wendy Willoughby, who were celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary the same day. When I asked Wendy for any words of wisdom on making it through 33 years of marriage, she said “Go with the flow and don’t sweat the small stuff.” Sounds good to me!

Flashback – what happened in Bitterwater 40 years ago this week: Marie Eade, while voting in the 1968 election, said she thought she’d never see the day when she would be voting via machine at Tully Hall! The Bitterwater 4-H Club held a pie and cake sale during the election as well. Mr. and Mrs. Armond Rist and Armond Jr. drove to Fresno to the commencement ceremonies at Fresno State for Anna Rist. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Eade attended the King City High graduation ceremonies where the graduating class totaled 141 seniors. Also attending the ceremonies from Bitterwater were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Daniels, whose daughter Marlene was graduating, Mr. and Mrs. Ned O’Connor, whose daughter Mary Ann was graduating, and Mrs. William Barrington and Andy. Claire Schmidt went to Lemoore to attend graduation ceremonies for his oldest grandson, Larry Hansen, and graduating from Bitterwater-Tully School were Lillian O’Connor, Danny Palmer and Karen Cassaneili.

Graduation ceremonies for the King City High School Class of 2008 takes place tomorrow. Bittrerwater-Tully alumni John Donham will be one of the graduates. Ceremonies for the first graduating class of Chalone Peaks Middle School were held June 10, while Jefferson and Bitterwater-Tully schools will hold graduation ceremonies tonight. An awards ceremony and barbecue will be part of the celebration at Bitterwater-Tully.

Have a great week, congratulate the graduates and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
