Assault with a deadly weapon

A 47-year-old San Benito County resident was arrested by sheriff’s deputies June 12 on suspicion of assaulting a 16-year-old boy by ramming his vehicle with a truck, then punching him in the face multiple times.

According to sheriff’s Detective Victor Casada, the boy was driving a pickup truck and “turned a donut” in the man’s driveway in the 4700 block of Santa Ana Valley Road, then drove off. The man, he said, then followed the boy in his own pickup truck, caught up to him, then rammed the vehicle several times with the truck.

Police allege that the boy and the man then got out of the vehicle, where the man punched the boy several times in his face.

The boy went to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on his own accord for treatment. Police arrived at the suspected crime scene while the boy was at the hospital.

Deputies reached the suspect by phone and told him to come to the sheriff’s office – which he did – and he was arrested and booked into San Benito County Jail.
