The Downtown Hollister Farmers’ Market will start accepting food stamps Wednesday in an effort to boost attendance.
The farmers’ market at the corner of Fourth and San Benito streets will provide wooden tokens, donated by San Benito Bank, in exchange for food stamps. The Hollister Downtown Association-run market will have a wireless terminal on site for EBT cardholders, said Sharlene Van Rooy with the HDA.
Van Rooy said the added offering is to “allow everyone to appreciate the market and to buy the best locally grown foods available.”
She noted how other California farmers’ markets have experienced increased attendance by offering the option.
