“La Carpa de los Rasquachis” El Teatro Campesino will present “La Carpa de los Rasquachis” tonight at 8 p.m. at the group’s playhouse, 705 Fourth St. The play, written by Luis Valdez, recounts the tale of the Chicano farm worker in America. The show will run weekends through September 21. Show times are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and $8 for children 12 years and under. All seats on Thursdays are $5. Opening night admission is free although donations are appreciated. Fiddle music and fund raiser Monterey Symphony violinist Caitlin McSherry will perform fiddle music at the Salinas City Hall today from 12:15-12:50 p.m. as a prelude to the Symphony Hoedown fund raiser, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6. Today’s brief performance is free of charge. McSherry and her hoedown band will be the featured performers at the September fundraiser, which will be held at the Salinas Golf and Country Club from 4-8 p.m. Cost is $50 per person and includes an outdoor barbecue, Blackstone wines and live entertainment. “What I Did in Summer Camp” Original artwork created by children attending the Monterey Museum of Art’s summer Art Discovery Camp will be on display through Oct. 10 in the Youth Art Gallery at the museum, 559 Pacific St. The camp sessions introduced art projects focused on themes of pirates, treasure and imagination as well as art and nature, bookmaking and journaling. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military personnel and children under 12 years of age are admitted free. “Urinetown the Musical” The Monterey Peninsula College Theatre department presents “Urinetown: the Musical” tonight at 8 p.m. at the Morgan Stock Stage at MPC, 980 Fremont St. The show is set in a town plagued by a 20-year drought, where water has become so scarce that private toilets are unthinkable and one large corporation has a monopoly on the town’s amenities. The show will run Thursday-Sunday through Aug. 16. Thursday shows begin at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Anniversary celebration Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park will celebrate its 75th anniversary today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a variety of “county fair” activities held in the park’s day use lot. Activities include community booths, children’s games, educational displays about the Civilian Conservation Corps, guided walks, a campfire program and food provided by the Big Sur Lodge. There will also be a display about the recent Basin Complex fire. Although the campground is already full for the weekend, there will be free day use parking for this one-day event. Aromas Day Spend “A Day in the Country” during the annual Aromas Day event today beginning with a country-style breakfast at the grange hall at 7 a.m. The Aromas Hills Artisans will host “Art in the Park” at 9 a.m. Other activities throughout the day include live music, pony rides, a farm animal petting zoo, kids’ games and a rock climbing wall. Cherry’s Jubilee The 16th annual Cherry’s Jubilee Motor Sports Festival begins today at Laguna Seca Recreational Area and Raceway and outlying areas of the Monterey Peninsula. This “oldies” party includes a car show featuring classic cars, motorcycles, sports and special interest cars, working show trucks and family entertainment. Cars will cruise along Alvarado Street and Fisherman’s Wharf tonight from 5:30-9:30 p.m., and other activities include a pancake breakfast Sunday, Sept. 7 from 7-10 a.m. and a poker run beginning at 8 a.m. today. Registration for the poker run closes at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 60 years of age and over and $5 for children 6-12 years of age. Children ages 6 years and under are free. Renaissance Faire The 2008 Northern California Renaissance Faire opens today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Casa de Fruta, 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy. This one-of-a-kind event, hosted by Play Faire Productions, introduces visitors to exciting world between 1490 and 1630 by providing a living history event that includes live comedy, improvisation, music, dramatic performances, pirate invasions, and a Celtic weekend.
