We take a look at some of the biggest stories of the week. This
week: the 152-156 flyover will be complete before Labor Day weekend
and residents flood downtown Hollister to display their classic
wheels.
1. Flyover at major highway intersection set to open Aug. 28

The flyover ramp at the intersection of Highways 152 and 156 is nearing completion and should be opened to the public just in time for Labor Day weekend.

Drivers should expect some “significant” relief at one of the area’s most congested intersections once the flyover – the main piece in a larger, $34 million improvement project there – is opened as projected on Aug. 28, said VTA spokeswoman Bernice Alaniz.

VTA officials have planned for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Aug. 27 before opening the flyover section for traffic the following morning, Alaniz said.

Even with so many vehicle options these days, the 22nd annual Street Festival proved that locals love their classic cars.

This year’s event held Saturday in downtown Hollister brought out a record number of cars and trucks – 138 – entered into various judging competitions, said Sharlene Van Rooy with the Hollister Downtown Association, which puts on the festival.
