The Economic Development Corp. of San Benito County has agreed to terms with Nancy Martin, a Southern Californian with experience in economic development on both the private and public sides of the fence, as the new executive director.
Her hiring ends months of recruitment by a board, with funding help from local governments, seeking to attract a power player who can direct economic development efforts and rejuvenate the local job base.
Economic Development Corp. President George Lewis announced the agreement to other board members at a meeting Tuesday. Martin, who most recently ran a private consulting business in Rancho Capistrano, will succeed longtime Executive Director Al Martinez in a higher-paying role carrying loftier expectations for business recruitment to the area. She expects to start Oct. 1, Lewis said.
He noted how Martin, before running her business the past few years, had worked for seven or eight years on redevelopment and economic development for the City of Corona.
“She comes understanding the process, as well as having contacts on the outside,” Lewis said. “She’s highly recommended.”
