Excellence Awards.
Ten programs on Community Media Access Partnership television have been named finalists in the 2008 Western Access Video Excellence Awards.

The WAVE Awards Ceremony will take place at the Alliance for Community Media Western States Regional Conference on Friday, Oct. 24, at the National Cable Center in Denver, Colo.

San Benito County Artist Shannon Grissom is nominated for five awards. CMAP Board of Directors Chairman Val Jeffery, is also a finalist.

“I’m proud of our independent community television producers. CMAP is fortunate to have so many talented members,” said executive director, Kathy Bisbee. “I’m looking forward to joining finalists at the WAVE awards ceremony in Denver, and cheering them on to win in their categories.” Bisbee mentioned that training programs for aspiring filmmakers and video producers is ongoing at CMAP, a local nonprofit organization located at Gavilan College in Gilroy. Bisbee is also a finalist for her documentary work as co-producer on a piece about organic farmers in Guatemala, “Cafe Maya.”

Community Media Access Partnership is a public access television station and community media center operating four channels featuring locally-produced public access, government, and education, serving the communities of Gilroy, San Juan Bautista and Hollister.

Any Gilroy, Hollister or San Juan Bautista resident can become a member and receive free and low-cost training on cameras, lighting, field and studio production, and editing on both Mac and Windows machines. The Western Region Video Excellence Awards were created in 1988 to recognize and promote the best in local community programming produced in the Western Region of the Alliance for Community Media. Entries top 500 each year and more than fifty awards are presented to professional and non-professional community video producers from all over the western region including Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada and New Mexico.
