Salinas – San Benito got its first win in Tri-County Athletic League boys soccer action Friday, beating host North Salinas 2-0.

Haybalers’ senior Eddie Trujillo found the net twice in the first half to stake San Benito (2-6-2, 1-2-1 TCAL) to the early lead and the defense kept the Vikings (2-5, 0-4) off the board.

Allen Nieves assisted both of Trujillo’s goals. The first came in the game’s 15th minute and Trujillo, who leads the ‘Balers with five goals, scored his second in the 35th minute.

North Salinas had a shot at tying the game in the 30th minute when it was awarded a penalty shot, but San Benito goalkeeper Daniel Lozano made the save to maintain the lead and Trujillo added to the one-goal advantage shortly after.

“I told (the players) not to make the mistakes we made in the Wednesday game,” ‘Balers coach Juan Carlos Martinez said, referring to San Benito’s 4-1 loss to Alvarez. “Mistakes were killing us. I had them keep the ball away from the goal and they did a pretty good job.”
