Farr Introduces Ocean Legislation

Washington – Local Congressman Sam Farr introduced a bill Thursday that, if passed, will provide guidelines and strategies for ocean protection and conservation.

Farr, the Democratic representative for District 17 (which includes Monterey and San Benito County), introduced the Ocean Conservation, Education and National Strategy for the 21st Century Act, also known as Oceans-21. The bill was introduced on the first day of the 110th Congress by Farr and other members of the Oceans Caucus.

The bipartisan bill would primarily focus on developing a cohesive and complete national ocean policy and would increase research and education in this area.
