What a great start to the PGA Tour season.
What a great start to the PGA Tour season.
Three of the so-called big five have already won events. Vijay Singh, Tiger Woods and most recently Phil Mickelson at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, have added trophies to their cases.
Add to this one of the up-and-comers in Aaron Baddeley with his early season win at Scottsdale, Ariz. and the race for the Fed Ex Cup is in full swing, no pun intended.
Hopefully some of the other big names will join the chase. Ernie Els and Retief Goosen will make their 2007 PGA Tour debuts at this week’s Nissan Open. Jim Furyk will also be looking to continue his success. They are far too talented not to join in the fray soon.
Each week players such as Charles Howell, Stewart Cink and the like threaten to grace the winner’s circle. They have won before and want to taste victory again.
And then we have new blood looking to grab the golden ring in the form of a PGA Tour victory.
Andrew Buckle, a player that we saw come through San Juan Oaks and the PGA Tour Q school two years ago, was in the hunt at San Diego going into the last day.
Jeff Quinney has worked his way into contention three times already this year only to come up short on the last day. John Mallinger, Michael Putnam and Craig Kanada are other players we have seen come through the Q school here and have had high finishes already this year.
So settle in for what should be a great year. Will Tiger break Byron Nelson’s record of 11 straight PGA Tour wins? He needs four to tie, five to break.
Who will win the four majors? Will there be a multiple winner of majors? Will the Fed Ex Cup race add the element of playoff golf that the PGA Tour is seeking? Who will hoist that trophy and bank the $10 million annuity?
Tune in throughout the year.
