Emmaus House has received a $20,000 Good Samaritan grant from the Health Trust. The money will support the Emmaus House Children’s Health Care initiative through Dec. 31, 2007.

The initiative is meant to provide medical treatment for emergencies and common illnesses, as well as stress or post traumatic stress disorder. Adults at the shelter, which serves women who have been in abusive households and their children, will receive job and life skills training from outside sources on a referral basis.

The Health Trust is a public benefit corporation that serves at-risk Santa Clara and northern San Benito county residents to on improve health and wellness.

The Emmaus House also recently elected new Board of Director officers for 2007. Rev. Joan Gardner of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will serve as president. Rev. David Rodriguez of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollister is the new vice president.

Pierre Steenberg of Hollister Seventh Day Adventist Church takes over as secretary. Gary Byrne of the Community Foundation for San Benito County was re-elected as treasurer.

Other members of the board of directors include representatives from local churches, schools, businesses, community service agencies, law enforcement and legal occupations.
