Aromas Scout Achieves Eagle Rank

Daniel Goodman, a member of Boy Scout Troop 504 in Aromas, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in January.

The Eagle rank is the highest rank that can be achieved in the Boy Scouts. In order to be named an Eagle, a Scout must demonstrate leadership, community service and Scout spirit.

For his Eagle community service project, Daniel built bookshelves for the library at Aromas Elementary School, a project that he achieved over four weekends with the help of other Scouts and friends.

Daniel, 18, a 2006 graduate of Anzar High School, is now attending Cabrillo College in Aptos. He is the son of Laurie and Paul Goodman of Aromas.

Boys State delegates sought

The San Benito County American Legion Post No. 69 is seeking a candidate to represent the community at the California American Legion Boys State program gathering in June.

Young men on their way to completing their junior year of high school this year, or who have at least one semester of high school remaining are eligible to serve as delegates. Candidates should show qualities of leadership, character, scholarship and loyalty and be involved in community service.

Former Boys State delegates include Bill Clinton, Dick Cheney, Tom Brokaw and Neil Armstrong.

California Boys State will be on the campus of the University of California in Sacramento. Expenses are paid by the local American Legion.

For further information, prospective candidates may call Rich Wagoner at 636-7410.
