Cold weather hit SBC
Some places celebrate a wintry wonderland around Christmas and New Year’s, but the usually mild-climate in San Benito County rarely offers such a display. However, residents enjoyed an early spring snow spectacular this week with a view of white dusted hills after a chilly winter storm left behind deposits of the fluffy stuff along mountain peaks and rolling foothills. Weather sources reported snow dotted the mountain tops from Yosemite to Kern County, with snow as low as 1,500 feet.
While the hilltops enjoyed snow, residents in Hollister and San Juan received a day and night of freezing rain. By Wednesday morning the clouds had parted just enough to offer a bright view of the hills green with spring dusted in white. By mid-Wednesday as the weather warmed to 50 degrees, the sight of snow had already started to disappear from the horizon as the lower patches started to melt.
