Practicing on the green can improve your game
How many of you practice but never really get better?
Most golfers will go to the range with a bucket of balls, their
pitching wedge, five iron and driver. Then they hit a few wedges to
warm up then move to the five iron, hit a few more and spend the
rest of the time pounding out the remaining balls with the ‘Big
Dog.’

How many of you practice but never really get better?

Most golfers will go to the range with a bucket of balls, their pitching wedge, five iron and driver. Then they hit a few wedges to warm up then move to the five iron, hit a few more and spend the rest of the time pounding out the remaining balls with the ‘Big Dog.’

Sound familiar? I know it does. I use to do the same thing before I got into the golf business.

Here’s a question: When was the last time you hit a driver, a five irons or any other club two times in a row when you were playing a round of golf? Unless you hit a ball out of bounds, the answer is you haven’t. The only time you do that is on the driving range.

Granted when you are working on a swing change you need to hit a lot of balls with the same club to ingrain the new moves, but after that you are just practicing driving range not how you play the game. I believe this is why the average golf score hasn’t changed much in 40 years.

The next time you are practicing, hit enough balls to get up to speed and then hit a different club with a different target until you run out of balls.

Or here is one other challenge for you. Try taking 30 minutes to hit 10 balls. Good golf takes preparation and patience. This just might be a way to see how good your swings are. Play well.
